The Need for Knowledgable Christians

Posted by novelword on May 7, 2008

The need for knowledgable young Christians in this time is ridiculously high.

The problem is not that people are asking questions that we don’t have the answers to. The problem is that they’re not asking questions about Christianity at all. And some Christians seem content to do the same.

I participate in a handful of web groups with people of all nationalities and beliefs. Many of them are atheists. Some are Christians. Some are agnostics. Others are Muslim, and numerous other beliefs. What troubles me if that the Christians seem to be (I’m being quite general here) the most unknowledgable and ignorant group, even when it comes to matters of defending their own beliefs. When it comes to questioning someone else’s, however, well – we seem to be very good at that.

But here’s the kicker – while we Christians do seem to have a knack for questioning the beliefs of others, namely, atheists, we fail to realize the difference between them and us. They know how to defend their beliefs (or, if you asked an atheist, their LACK of beliefs). Why are they so good at holding their figurative ground? They know their stuff.

Do not get me wrong. I am not bashing on Christians. But if we ever expect to convert anyone, we must study and know why we believe what we do, and be able to back it up the best we can.

II Timothy 2:15 – “Study to show yourself approved unto God…”
